Kidex to attract RM17.5 billion investment


SEDENAK 23 August 2020 -- The Kulai Iskandar Data Exchange (KIDEX) in Sedenak is expected to attract RM17.5 billion investments from companies related to data management and computing, besides offering 1,600 highly skilled job opportunities in the field of information technology, including semi-skilled and support workers.

Located on a 745-acre site, KIDEX is developed by TPM Technopark Sdn Bhd (TPM Technopark), a company owned by Johor Corporation (JCorp), and is a catalyst for the growth of the data industry which will elevate Sedenak as a regional data center hub in the future.

In a briefing to YAB Datuk Haji Hasni Mohammad, Chief Minister of Johor, during his recent visit to KIDEX, it was revealed that target investors were amongst industry operators related to data centers and cloud computing.

Also present at the briefing session were JCorp President and Chief Executive, Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), Datuk Ismail Ibrahim and representatives of several federal and state agencies.

KIDEX is a feature component in the development of the Kulai Industrial Park (KIP) which covers a total area of ​​7,290 acres and is the latest data hub in Malaysia, expected to attract Industrial Revolution 4.0 investors.

Developed with sustainability in mind, KIDEX will generate environmentally friendly energy through Solar Farm and Co-generation Plant as a sustainable source of energy.

KIDEX is targeted to be fully operational by 2023 and has succeeded in attracting investors from within and outside the country, especially from China, the United Kingdom and Japan who had visited the site.

KIDEX offers advantages in terms of efficient logistical connections through the proximity of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Senai International Airport, as well as being strategically located in Johor, a neighbor of Singapore.

During his visit, the YAB Chief Minister of Johor has also received a briefing by IRDA who revealed KIDEX as one of the initiatives made to realize the physical development agenda of Bandaraya Pintar Iskandar Malaysia (BPIM).

BPIM covers six dimensions, namely Smart Governance, Smart People, Smart Mobility, Smart Environment, Smart Economy and Smart Life.

A strong and stable data communication infrastructure will definitely benefit all stakeholders in the Iskandar Malaysia economic corridor - government, business sector and the people.

According to IRDA, this effort will not only help achieve the Iskandar Malaysia vision to become a Strong and Sustainable International Metropolis, but also boost the Johor Digital agenda and the national Fiber and Communication System Development Plan.
